We are currently mid-way through the transition from fossil fuels and nuclear energy to a more sustainable energy supply. This transformation poses many challenges, as our energy production is not only becoming more remote and decentralized, but also more volatile. After all, wind and solar power may not always be available to the same extent and therefore supply different amounts of power at different times.
However, to ensure the availability of adequate power at all times, it is necessary to look for solutions aimed to improve the use of renewable energy. – Especially given the increasing demand for power in the future, due to technologies such as e-mobility.
Power suppliers are increasingly faced with the question of whether the capacity of their existing low-voltage grid is sufficient to meet the challenges of rising power demand: Is expensive grid expansion always the right solution to prevent impending grid failures, or could intelligent power control also ensure a reliable power supply?
Yet before a decision can be made as to whether measures need to be taken at all, power suppliers first need clarity about the permanent grid status, which means that data concerning real-time measurements of currents and energy flows must be collected. Many existing solutions, unfortunately, are associated with considerable effort and expense.
We have explored this topic with Stromnetz Hamburg GmbH and found a solution that accurately measures and monitors the consumption of the low-voltage distribution grid. It was important that the installation is not only possible for new systems, but also retrofitting with little effort.
To provide the required measured data, we offer fuse-switches of our E3 series already assembled with current transformers and the corresponding plug-in connections. These perfectly matched components form the basis of the smart grid and can be installed in the system regardless of the preferred metering system – whether retrofitted or as a new installation. You benefit from low installation effort, since all necessary connection work has already been taken care of by our production department and the transmission ratios are firmly defined. All relevant measuring points can therefore be set up quickly and easily.
